Mommy Wears Heels…

Online Baby Shower? WTH!

My friend recently got invited to an online baby shower and all I could think about when she was telling me this was how incredibly rude and tacky this was.  She said the woman’s mom lives in another state than the daughter but she still wanted to do something for her.

Baby showers are supposed to be about celebrating the baby’s birth with close family and friends, while letting people see the glowing mama-to-be―this seemed more like a charity event to me!  Trust me, people will send you gifts if they really want to, they don’t need a “shower” to be told to do so.  Granted, a bonus of a baby shower is the gifts you receive, but at least let the guest get some food, have good conversations and a mimosa or 2!  In my opinion, the shower either needs to be in the state of the daughter, and have the mom fly in or the mom’s city and the daughter travel there for it… people do this all the time. They send gifts to the house and bring a few small items that are easy for her to pack to go back home (board books, pacifiers, onesies, etc.).

If I were invited to such a thing, I wouldn’t attend.  Would you?

The “Mom Car”

The mini-van… some love em’, some hate em’.

5 Hints you are Driving a “Mom Car”

  1. You refuse to call it a mini-van… you tell everyone, “it’s an SUV, just a little lower to the ground.”
  2. You envy anyone and everyone that drives a sedan.
  3. Every cup holder is filled―pop cans, sippy cups and more.
  4. You feel that your job title is: Professional Carpooler.
  5. You think sliding side doors are the best thing since sliced bread.

* BONUS*  Your parents are “so proud” of you for buying such a responsible car. (they have the same one!)

Top 10 Safest Cities

As parents, safety is a main concern. That’s why Parenting magazine recently did a study to find the top safest towns for you to live.  How did they get this list, you might ask? Easy. They started by using a list of the top 100 cities by population, adding in well-known smaller cities as well, and removing cities so close to other large cities that they would have similar data. Next, they analyzed crime rates and the number of registered sex offenders for all the towns.  Lastly, they crunched numbers in two safety categories to come up with their rankings. With no further adieu…

The  top 10 cities of where you can feel the safest:

  1. Scottsdale, AZ
  2. Arlington, VA
  3. El Paso, TX
  4. Ann Arbor, MI
  5. Mesa, AZ
  6. Anaheim, CA
  7. San Diego, CA
  8. Portland, OR
  9. New York City, New York
  10. Mobile, AL
