Old-Time Popcorn Balls

Welcome to “Recipe Friday!”  Today, I decided to do an old-time family favorite… Popcorn Balls! Super easy to make and perfect for those upcoming fall weekends.  Keep this recipe on hand for the kiddies for Halloween or football Sundays for the hubby and his buddies!  It’ll make you a favorite in the neighborhood.

P.S. For an added treat, you can always drizzle a little caramel or chocolate over them once they are formed!

Ingredients

2 Cups of granulated sugar

1 ½ Cups of water

½ Tsp salt

½ Cup light corn syrup

1 Tsp vinegar

1 Tsp vanilla

5 Quarts popped corn

Directions: Butter sides of saucepan.  Combine sugar, water, salt, syrup, and vinegar in saucepan.  Stir in vanilla.  Slowly pour over popped corn, stirring just to mix well.  Butter hands lightly’ shape balls.  Makes 15 – 20 popcorn balls.

Discount Websites

Not sure if you are into saving money, but I am!  A few sites that have helped out the good ol’ pocket book are listed below.  These websites get retailers to massively discount their goods and/or services by guaranteeing a minimum number of purchases.  You pick the offers you want and you are only charged if enough people have also wanted the deal.  I’m gotten some great stuff; like a $25 facial, $10 for a 3 month gym membership, etc.  Try em’ out!

Groupon: Posts one deal a day in over 150 cities.  Get a minimum of 50% off on everything from spa treatments to restaurants and more.  Tip―you get a $10 credit for every friend you get to sign up that makes a purchase.

Living Social: Great rates on sporting events, restaurants and more.  Best thing―if you get 3 friends to buy a deal, you get it free!

Buy with Me: Give great price breaks and discounts on kid-friendly activities.  Includes trips to the aquarium, art classes and music lessons.  Only bummer on this site… it’s only in 9 cities right now, but keep checking back if your city isn’t on the list.  They are adding more.

The Couple Vacation

So, as most of you know, from my lack of posts in the past week… I was on vacation!  Yes, vacation.  I know, I can’t believe I was able to finally say those words.  Granted, it was only for 3 ½ days (alone) and 4 days visiting the family, but it was still a vacation.  To recap, the hubby and I had not been on an “alone” vacation since our honeymoon―which will be 5 years in September.  Needless to say, we were due for one.

Vacationing alone after you have a baby is a must-do―even if it’s only a weekend get-a-way.  Sure, taking a trip with the kiddies is great for family together time and closeness, but there is nothing like a little “couple” bonding.  Every couple needs a little alone time to unwind and reconnect.  And it also helps that you don’t have to change diapers, have scheduled feedings and naptimes!

Watching the budget?  You don’t need to go to Europe or Hawaii to have a great vacation together.  We did a few days stay in a nearby beach town and it was great.  Dinners out, walks on the beach, a little… OK, a lot… of wine. ;)

Oh, and there is no reason to feel guilty about leaving the kiddies for a few days.  They need a happy home life and having mommy and daddy relaxed and reconnected is by no means a selfish act.  Inventing in your relationship is an important!  So, what are you waiting for?  Start planning… oh, and go out and buy yourself some new lingerie while you’re at it!

The Baby Morpher

The “Baby Morpher” on www.thebump.com  has got to be one of the most addictive “games” if you are pregnant or thinking of getting pregnant! If you’ve ever wondered what you and your partners’ future babies will look like, give their Bump Baby Maker a whirl!

Your full lips, with his blue eyes? Or your hair color and his nose? All you have to do is upload your photo along with your partner’s and voila – you’ve made a baby! I have to say, it’s pretty fun… the picture it came up with and our son are very similar. Really want to have a little fun? Try morphing your photo with your favorite celeb’s. I have to say, Ben Affleck and I made some really cute kids—but not as cute as my son is now!

Have a little fun and try it out or at least have a good laugh!
