I should be able to write a decent paragraph or two about myself that makes you think I am interesting and compels you to read more. But when it comes to writing about myself, I freeze up. It’s hard to figure out what’s interesting about me, I mean come on, I’m used to myself. I’m actually kinda boring. So draft after draft of trying to write this thing, I thought I would just give you the basics of my life… I have a short version and a long version. It’s up to you to pick your poison…
The Short Version:
Wife to Steve and mommy to Colton. Passion for online shopping, home decorating & entertaining. Lover of sports and red wine.
The Long Version…
Growing up in Iowa, I always wanted to move to a big city. I had dreams and aspirations of moving to New York City and becoming the next Donna Karan or Diane von Furstenberg. Well, obviously that didn’t pan out otherwise you would have heard of me by now or possibly wearing my designs. Moving on… I went to college at Western Michigan University, where fraternity parties and hockey games consumed all of my weekends, OK, I guess I can come clean now, they consumed all of my weekdays too… sorry mom and dad! Fast forward to after graduation, bored out of my mind, living in Howell, MI, I decided to join one of my BFF’s in Seattle, Washington. The goal: to nab a hottie Microsoft man I could settle down with, have kiddies and live the life of the perfect wife… hosting dinner parties for my husbands associates and carting all the kids to school and their extracurricular activities. Yeah, well that didn’t pan out either… there are no available hotties at Microsoft, trust me… I looked when I worked there!
This leads me to June 15, 2004… still in the Seattle area, fresh off having just broken up with my boyfriend for the FINAL time, I told my mother I was going to take a year off from dating… I was going to travel, I was going to have fun… I was going to figure out what I was going to do with my life. Because we all know, at 23, you MUST know what you are going to do with the rest of your life. Well, that night, my life changed forever… I met Steve.
Steve was unlike any guy I had ever met… quietly confident, sweet, a little shy but at the same time, out-going. The problem: he didn’t give me the attention I ever-so-craved. It was a challenge! Well, I’ll be honest again, it wasn’t much of a challenge… we were engaged 3 1/3 months later. People thought we were crazy, oh and that I was pregnant (which I wasn’t). We were polar opposites… here was a guy who didn’t have anything in his closet besides board shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops and I was the girl who loved designer clothes and liked nothing more than to get dolled up in dresses and the highest heels possible. I mean, come on, at 5’3” (on a good day) I needed all the height I could get! The only thing we had in common was a love for our families, wanting kids at some point in our lives and a love of sports.
Fast-forward again… We were married on September 10, 2005 in front of 250 of our closest and dearest friends and family members. We welcomed our son, Colton, on January 5, 2010. Since that fateful day we met at the Kirkland Pub in June 2004, we have both learned to embrace each others distinct personalities and traits and have given into (and actually enjoy) some of the others’ hobbies. Although Steve is still that board-short, t-shirt wearing type of guy, he now owns dress pants, button down shirts and shoes that cover his toes. He realizes there is a time and place when you need to bust out the “A-game” wardrobe, and quite honestly, he looks damn good in it… unfortunately, he knows that now as well! I have learned that it is OK to wear jeans (I actually own about 5 pairs now!), that I can sit around home with out make-up on and that people actually do wear sweatpants. One thing I won’t change, though… I still wear heels with everything.
