Mommy Wears Heels…

All in the Name of Beauty

Talk about bad parenting… 14-year-old Sophie Watson wanted permanent make-up and her mother said, “OK!”

Sophie, who has already won 22 beauty pageant titles, wants to be a singer and actress and thinks having these “enhancements” will help her.  Watson’s mother, who is a beauty therapist, says she sees no problem with the procedures. She told Closer magazine, “I wasn’t overly worried and, once she’s got an idea in her head, there’s no stopping her.”

Really? Um, lady… yes you can stop her! She’s 14 and you are her mother. The procedures require parental consent for those under 18 years old, which you readily gave. Try being her mother not her friend!

What kind of message does it send a 14-year-old girl if her mother agrees that a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure is needed to look “beautiful”?  And we are not talking about one thing here… little Sophie had eyeliner, lip liner, a fake beauty mark, and her eyebrows tattooed with makeup.

Let’s also not forget the positive reinforcement of the idea that one should suffer for beauty. Sophie told the magazine that the eyeliner was the worst part. “I started crying because the thought of a needle being that close to my eye freaked me out.” I don’t know about you, but I see a big difference in tattooing make-up on your face and wearing a pair of uncomfortable heels in the name of beauty.  This poor girl is going to need some serious counseling down the road…

5 Ways Babies are Like Celebrities

Babies and celebrities have a lot in common… here’s why:

  1. Bottle service?  Yup, that’s all they get.
  2. Someone will always be able to come up with a naked photo of them.
  3. They are always getting freebies from people.
  4. They have a stylist (you), a chef (you) and a personal assistant (you).
  5. No matter where they go, they are always dressed to the nines.

*BONUS* Everyone always says how “cute” they are.

Safe Motherhood Kits

Looking to do a good deed?  Sponsor a Safe Motherhood Kit from IMA WorldHealth.  For $25 you will provide clean and sterile birthing supplies to Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa and Haiti in the Caribbean – areas where infant and maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the world.  Your money also goes to providing training on how to prevent infection and give warm clothes to newborn babies.  Each kit includes four sterile items (gloves, an umbilical tie, a scalpel and gauze pads) plus plastic sheeting, a bar of soap, a washcloth and baby items (a clean hat, tunic and blanket).

IMA World Health has been ranked one of Forbes top 20 most efficient charities and has also received Charity Navigator’s highest rating for efficiency.
